What's in your FX5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i got a fx5 second hand from a fish shop, it was used with 7 others for a 10x3x3 reef tank in the pet shop which now has a sump. The owner of the tank was the owner of the shop, so he could have what ever media he wanted. However, when i opened it up it was just full of ceramic rings. Like everybody else is saying, they're best to use. all of the other products are just a con. you could spend tons of money on stuff that takes stuff out of the water and it would make no difference.

I use seachem matrix and ceramics in mine. No polishing pads, no carbon. This way, I have a maintenance-free setup. I do use the provided sponges around the trays :)

Both of mine have filter floss in one tray and substrat pro in the other 2

I just got one myself. That Fish Place is having an awsome sale on them with free shipping. Mine didn't come with any media. I put ceramic 'noodles'/rings in it and the pads. I have a bag of carbon in the one because of my stinky monster goldfish. The bag is long so I had to fold it in half which is allowing most of the water to bypass the carbon anyway. lol

I have 5 FX5's, All are full of bio media with the stock sponges. 1 is stacked full of ehfisubstrat pro, 3 have substrat pro/matrix/biomax, the last is full of biomax/siporax...
