what if u put them inside a hangon filter like an emperor or aquaclear?

that would ahve little effect on bio filtering as it not enough to really make a dent in biofilteration

It does, but you should use more if you want to get the job done well. Bigger is better for the most part. I posted a picture of the twin bio towers I'll be using on my new exhibit in this thread:

Even the amount I run at home is about half the size of the tank.
