They fly just like frisbees, which gives you something to do when you kill them.

I would really like to keep some because of how they look i think there just some of the coolest looking fish

I'd like their personality. They act almost like puppies. They are very eager to greet you when you feed them.

Nothing looks like them!!!! They have a unique shape, beautiful colors and patterns, they look amazing in well planted tanks, you can keep them in large groups, and they're just plain awesome!

they have some of the most beautiful color and patterns of any freshwater fish. I have never kept any (im sortof scared to! they are too costly to kill) but would love to have a tank of them someday...

for now ill stick to my africans.

Color, shape, personality.... all three were key selling points to me. I want to do a salt water tank, but won't be able to for another year or so. Discus were about as close as I could get, and though I slave my rear off for them, I love them. They are certainly very personable, and really do have unique personalities. Cichlids in general are a lot of fun, and the discus reigns as king in my mind. :-)

Yes, it sure sucks having to pay $50+ a fish, and pray to goodness that nothing happens to them... I only took the plunge because my gf bought me a discus for x-mas, and I wanted to do the right thing and provide it the best care I possibly could... Since acquiring that discus, I've probably spent another $400 on my tank. -_- The benefit though, is that I have beautiful fish which genuinely are fun and relaxing to watch and interact with. They really do have personalities somewhat like puppies... which happen to live in water... :silly:

Just a few pictures of my discus. :)

Please excuse all of the bubbles in the last one... it was right after a water change and I just happened to catch my turq in a nice pose. :p:
