I'm not dogging the fish or anything ..
What's so cool about them though? I see so many people on here with not just one but tons if them are they really that cool? If I was going to get one, what would be a good "best" one?
Someone make me a poly man lol

I used to think the same thing. But after getting a couple I'm hooked. For me its a combination of their ancient body shape, their inquisitive nature and watching them eat. My endli aggressively engulfs feeders at a rate you would think is impossible for such a non-agile looking fish. And yet he ever so gently sips in cut shrimp and tilapia. And as my 16 year old daughter puts it, he just looks cool.

When I saw my first bichir I thought Godzilla and it reminded me of my childhood

I love everything about them, their body shapes, the various patterns each species has, watching them chase down food after lights are out. Most have wonderful personalities and at least in my opinion are just all around interesting fish. The species you want will be determined by your tank size and aesthetic preference. Personally my favorites are the weeksii, mokelembembe, buettikoferi, and retropinnis.

As I said earlier they have great personality, ranging from insatiable eaters to curious and picky. Some are extremely active while others are content hanging around by the heater or piling on top of one another. There's really a poly for everyone. Whatever you end up doing these fish are highly addictive and if you get the bug for them you'll find yourself scouring the internet looking for any information relating to the individual species.

Also Hao, every time I see her I get sooo jealous :D

they usually freak me out cuz they kinda look like snakes and i am terrified of snakes. but after seeing them a lot. i kinda learn to appreciate them. and not hate them as much. been able to see some giant ones in person and they are pretty awesome at a HUGE size. im sure u will learn to appreciate them when you see them often or see some big ones in person.

What would be the best "all around" beginner poly? I want to get in on this crave!
For a 90g or possibly my 220.

Perhaps some what active and just cool?

And me too Nikon I don't like snakes much lol! But I think I can get over the long thing because I know better that its a fish

To be honest you absolutely can't go wrong with a senegal, kind of plain but they have great personality and are pretty much fool proof. In my experience they're very robust little fish and are a good introduction. If they're too plain the delhezi is also a good choice, just as tough as the sen almost as common, but they are a little more attractive in terms of eye candy. Both will do great in a 90g. Though if it's just the 90g I would stick with the upper jaw species as they tend to stay smaller. If you're going with the 220g may as well get an endli, they're pretty common and have to potential to become monsters ;)
