Whats the absolute minimum tank size for a sen bichir?

Have you done a search?

I did but all i found was that a short body sen could live in a 20gal and that 30 was preferrable.

While I wouldn't suggest anything less than 55g for a full grown, 12" specimen, it all depends on it's current size.

rarely any grows to 12" mines grew to 12" most grow to 9-10" tho

30g minimum

Hmm... So weve got 30g and 55g as min. tank sizes.
So, could one go in a 38g, 36"x12" footprint and 20" high?

Thats probably why.
My 4 dels all slowed down at around 4-5" in my 30g, but once moved to Henwards 1200L tank they had a good growth spurt. I think if you grew some sens out in a 120g+ tank you'd see good growth and they'd get to 12".
IMO a 75g would be ideal, a 12" fish (or a stunted fish that doesn't make it to 12" and dies prematurely) in a 30g tank is cruel IMO...
