Whats the Average Life Span of an Asian Aro?

So I did some research online and have found all sorts of answers for this question of mine ranging from 10 - 50+ years. Now i know that there are many old wise dragons here on MFK's so I just want to toss this one out there and see what the catch is :)

Now the Link says Aro's live for 10 years? I think thats an understatement cause I have read somewhere mentioning really old Chinese scrolls or books stating that Aro's owners would grow old and pass on their Aro's to the next generations etc... So all that probabaly would take close to 100 years to happen no? 2 generations worth of time?

Also the owner of a LFS has a Gourami thats 38years old... Now I know its not an Aro but for being a fish thats around the same size and being a cold blooded animal there should be the possibility that an Aro can too and should live up to 38 years? no? Ofcourse with proper care and everything...
 
Found some more Info and I guess I just answered my own thread :) An Arowana can possibly live up to 60+ years with good care. 60! Wow... I dont even know if I will live up to 60(Smoker =( ).

Hi Guys,

I got this information from a Book, like to share with all of you. The life-span of the Arowana is believed to be in the region of 60 years. The oldest Arowana that have come across to date in some discussions and interview with other Arowana hobbyists was 60 years old. It was initially kept by a grandfather, then handle down to the father, and it was last know to be taken care of by the grandson.

Wowow..really surprise me, Life-span of Arowana can last for 60 yeas old, very strong fish! Long life..

Belief if an Arowana is well kept and taken care of, it will bring the owner "Good Luck" and "Fortune", while keeping all evils at bay.

With TLC, appropriate environment and proper nuturing, life span of arowana could reach 1/4 century . That much is known and is achievable . Although , the majority of most arowanas' life span is about 15 years in man made environments . I have heard, saw pictures and read aritcles about some arowanas could live past 3 generations (>60 years), but have not witnessed it myself , although I had seen some that lived well past 25 years .

they are very long lived if kept in a proper aquarium. Keeping it in a 75 till its 2' with drastically shorten its life span due to stunting, or possibly due to the fact that the aro will be constantly jumping to try to get out. Sorry to bring this from another thread but if you've ever seen a 2' aro you would realize that it will need much larger than a 75 at a much earlier age.

Just do your best to get him a bigger tank as soon as possible. Aim for before 16-17" so stunting doest start to occur.

they just live that long cause they don't get to play with drugs, fast cars and women folk...
