Fx5 is awesome i have an eheim was not to pleased but i would go for the fx5 or i agree with everyone else make your own sump or wet/dry. Im planning on doing the same thing in the near future.

The best filter is the one, or more that keeps your tank clean/ healthy, without driving you crazy.
HOB, canister or sump, who cares.
As long as they do their jobs and don`t max out your credit limit.
There is no “Uber” filter.
I`d rather have a well maintained Aqua-Tech than a neglected/filthy sump system.
Tank turn over rates are thrown around like gospel.
10 X, you gotta have it.
FX5 was hand tooled by god himself.
Wheelbarrow full of scrubbies is what you need.
Go sump or go home.

i personally stay away from the fx5's because there have been many ppl having issues with the impellers and i don't like the fact that there is significantly less biomedia areas in it.
i love my sump, but it can get noisy with the dripping water.
