Agreed, cycling with fish is both cruel and a headache. Sure, it means putting fish in the tank sooner, but safely cycling with fish takes much longer and requires way more work. If you already have cycled filter media, add that to the new filters and it will make the cycle go much faster. If enough old media is added you can almost skip the cycle and be ready to add fish right away
ill go out on a limb and actually answer your question, i'd go with a dozen giant danios, dose with seachem stability, and add some media from another active tank. typically if you add enough previously seeded media its good to go within a week or so with minimal spikes.
