Whats the BEST Way to move large fish? NEED HELP ASAP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the best thing to do is use heavy duty plastic fish bag. You can usually get it at you lfs just ask them. I've moved 20" fish in them before. You got to get the biggest bag and to be safe double bag it and put it in a cooler or watever container your using.

I used a Koi sock net and it worked well then either a real big cooler or a stock tank in a pickup truck with some good netting over it since they are jumpers.

I second that. Makes it real easy to catch and move fish.

I'd stay away from the garbage bag...big aro's go straight thru them.

IME, used a pillow case many times successfully since I only really move them from tank to tank and water can get heavy.

Tried the koi net thing once to move a big aro w/ bad results....getting the fish out safely was tough w/o damaging their large fins since they are real jumpers.

Large fish bags sound good too though.

I would agree with this method being the best. With all the other methods there is a good chance of damaging the aros barbels.

Thank you all so far for the info.....I think I will be ready for the transport.

Lets us know what method you used and how it went. Or better yet take some pics and share them with us. Might be helpful for others who do it in the future.

I used a mix of koi net to get them out of the big tank......2 55 gallon coolers.....one for each fish.....filled them both up with half my water and half the original tank water....I had already been taking about 10 gallons a day to put at the tank at home in order to get it ready....other then that...I was lucky and live only 10 minutes away so no air pump or powerhead was need.....before I got them into the tank I added some water heaters to make sure I didnt put them in the tank at home which was warmer then what they were used to ...about 82 degrees..........I tried to keep them in complete darkness the whole time....considering I did not want to sedate them with any drugs. Anyhow....it was a sucess....they seem happy and are getting around in thier new home just fine.
