Wolf fish experts.... is there any species of wolf that does better in a community and isn't super aggressive or does it usually depend on the fish itself? I've been wanting to add one but was always hesitant because of their aggression

Personally I've only kept a curupira in a community and I've kept a mala in a community and between those two the curupira was better in the community. But my experience is only limited to those two species.

I thought I read somewhere that a red wolf was less aggressive but I have no experience with any personally

What are the potential tankmates?

You're right, they completely slipped my mind. I had one of those also in a community without any issues.

I have a aimara, curupira. Both in community. Aimara just hates me. Curupira don't like the pikes. Other then that. Normal aggression

Not an expert but I've kept a decent amount of Hoplias. As far as aggression goes most wolves IME are predators not really given to aggression except among themselves. I've kept Curupira and Mala in communities(not together and at the same time) and both where fine with other fish.

The risk comes from fish that are too small to be kept with them and from fish that are aggressive towards the wolves. Fish that are too small invariably get eaten and fish that are aggressive toward them will often times get shredded by the wolf trying to defend itself. So while they aren't really aggressive IME they still need their tankmates to be chosen carefully.
