I just purchased a new Red Oscar and the first day in the tank it seemed fine, swam around, ate some blood worms, and found a hiding spot behind a rock with my small pleco. Now out of no where he's just hanging at the top of the tank not really looking to good. Can he just be getting use to his new enviroment.

He's in the tank with a Albino Oscar who's about 10 inches and a school of tim foil barbs, and the common pleco. I did catch the Albino chasing him around the tank once, but he does that to all the new fish then loses interest.

Anyway any advice.

Are any of your other fish hanging around the surface? If so then make sure you getting enough oxygen exchange. It could also be that where he is is the only place the other fish will allow him to be.

He about 3 to 4 inches. what petsmart considers medium. I'll do a water change when I get off of work and rearrange the decor. Thanks for the insight.

It can still be an oxygen problem, when my oxygen levels dropped the first one who was hanging at the surface was my Midas, the rest was still acting normal.

The 10 inch might be bullying the 4 inch when there is no eye on them. How are the fins, are they torn or what ??

That is my guess. If your 10 incher is not at the top of your tank searching for oxygen why would this one do ??

I have noticed that bullied fish often hang out near the top of the tank, for whatver reason . . . if you put a 4" oscar into an established tank with a 10" oscar, I would not be at all surprised to see this

how big is your tank? unless it is a fairly large one (150G+), this won't work

I just got home from work and he's chillin at the bottom of the tank with the pleco behind the rock again. His fins are fine. I'm starting to think he's just toying with my emotions.
