Whats the deal with the FX5 shutting on and off?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It does the following:
-Turns on for two minutes, turns off for two minutes, and then turns back on when you plug it in
-Turns off for two minutes every 24 hours

Both of these things keep air out of the canister.

If you really want to overfilter, I would do one FX5 and one filter for pure mechanical filtration that's easier to clean--maybe an AC110 with just sponges and filter floss. I don't like cleaning my FX5 very much. :D

And I'd add a powerhead.

I'd think you'd need at least 5 of them to really do the job.

Why would you add a powerhead?

Because there will still likely be "dead spots" in the tank that aren't getting enough flow. Aim the powerhead(s) at these areas.

If you're going to over filter, at least do it right. :D
