Whats the deal with the FX5 shutting on and off?

So I heard it does this, so why does it do this? Doesn't shutting on and off affect performance?

It does the following:
-Turns on for two minutes, turns off for two minutes, and then turns back on when you plug it in
-Turns off for two minutes every 24 hours

Both of these things keep air out of the canister.

interesting. My plan is to add two of them to my planned 110 lava rock tank.

I'm thinking this should cover me well enough as far as filtration goes, no?

If you really want to overfilter, I would do one FX5 and one filter for pure mechanical filtration that's easier to clean--maybe an AC110 with just sponges and filter floss. I don't like cleaning my FX5 very much.

And I'd add a powerhead.

Because there will still likely be "dead spots" in the tank that aren't getting enough flow. Aim the powerhead(s) at these areas.

If you're going to over filter, at least do it right.

Maybe i'll use a couple of those hydor korilla things.

But i'm thinking filtration-wise, two fx5 will be enough no?
