Whats the deal with the FX5 shutting on and off?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you waste the money on two FX5s for that tank, I'll come over to your house, slap you, and steal one. ;)

Hydor koralia evolutions are my favorite mid size powerhead. Go up to 1400 gph.

I'm telling you....You need five.

Why are you asking a silly question? I remember just a few days ago, you were talking about how you are so experienced that you can smell ammonia and nitrites in your aquariums and don't need or want a test kit. One of your main supporters in that thread lost most of his fish a couple days later to some mystery illness and also refused to test...

haha, served.

Haha, Redear I see you've made some friends around here. :)

While I might not agree with some of the things you post, I'll give you honest advice if you ask for it. There's really no reason to troll threads with topics from other threads...

Yup, $230 is close to as low as you'll generally find them new. Which is a great deal for what you get!

But that other $230 for a second FX5 would be a waste IMO, unless you're planning on upgrading later, and even then you could just buy one later. Better to spend it on other equipment, livestock, or send the wife for a spa day--she might even let you put the 110 in the living room after that! :grinno:

Oh for the love of all that is golden, I AM NOT AN EXPERT, i've just been keeping fish for 30 years. That's it.

About the FX5s, i am using two, because I like filtration as much as the fish, and i want a nice set up.

Why do people like to tear down others, when I personally would NEVER do it to anyone else?

I hear you. Its just that I want a super-duper filtration on that extra high 110, know what i'm sayin'?

It's just that one FX5 full of good bio media is going to handle any reasonable bio load in a 110. When you set up an FX5 to do heavy duty mechanical filtration, they clog quickly due to their no-bypass design. So two FX5s might be "cool," but I think you're going to be happier with one FX5 and some additional pure mechanical filtration.

I think of an FX5 as a general "work horse" of a tank... Lots of flow, lots of media, and good basic mechanical filtration. EVERY filter has its strengths and weaknesses--that's why there are so many different types and preferences people have about them.
