What's the deal with what table salt to use?

Iodine is indeed toxic to fish, I don't know how much iodized table salt per gallon of water it would take to kill a fish tho

stay away from iodized salt. use kosher salt it dissolves easily compared to rock salt, but rock salt is cheaper.

AFAIK, its a myth that iodized table salt is harmful.

I've used iodized table salt with all those anticaking agents numerous times almost as high as 3 teaspoons per one gallon, i put ~130 teaspoons of salt in a 55g to treat for ick. No ill effects. The tank was treated for 3 weeks and had "salt sensitive" fish in it at the time. They all made a 100% recovery.

As far all suggestions, I'm afraid I'm limited in this country to non-iodized salt but with antibinding agents.

incidentally why exactly do they iodize salt? What is the benefit of iodized salt compared to normal salt?

I have used Morton brand evaporated sea salt for many years without the slightest problem. There are purists who will not use this salt commonly sold in 50 pound bags. This evaporated sea salt has no additives and is typically used in water softeners and for melting ice on streets. I pay about $4.29 US per bag at the local Home Depot, much like a giant hardware outlet, which also sells lumber and tools. The salt containing the additive YPS is dangerous and must be avoided. Common table salt is usually iodized and is not recommended for aquarium use. Many food stores sell non-iodized salt but as you mention it often has an anti caking agent which can be bad for aquarium fish. The local aquarium fish stores which carry aquarium safe salt often sell it for many dollars per pound and if you use any quantity it is worth locating it in commercial size bags.

HOME DEPOT stocks MORTON SALT; Morton has changed the name. My recent salt purchase for aquarium and Koi pond use looks something like this picture below. The label says:
"Morton White Crystal Solar Salt"
"Kiln Dried"
