whats the difference between Ecuador and Peru festae?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Peru and Ecuador can be one piece if we dont think human territory. Fishes swim guys. Wherever they can. A Peru fish doesnt say "oh crap! Ecuador and turn back when it swims"

Mhm, Ecuador and Peru is rather connected. A note though, although fish can swim wherever they want, it's only if where they're found are actually connected. If there's a large chunk of land between them (say it's two isolated lakes or something), then obviously they can't migrate to each others' homes. And then speciation etc. can happen. :)

If there are differences we will see it!! Not by words of internet ppl. Plane, simple, common f-n sense.

Good care, and quality diet for the fish makes the fish's colors rich and the fish healthy. Not one location is richer in colors than the other..
It's mostly the quality of the individual.
omg stop this nonsense of making them two different kinds

Bro it seems like your really hung up on this festae location thing:/ give it up as either way there isnt enough proof of how to determine which location a festae came from. but there are differences in structure and color. that has been proven in almost every ecuador vs peruvian festae thread. i am not gonna get into another debate about determining characteristics with you or anyone else on this forum. you do have a valid point on the territorys and the possibility of traveling back and forth but thats it. all you have is theory, no proof. i dont think you've kept festae long enough or had either locations or enough of them to be able to compare differences. but when it all comes down to it, its personal prefrence as to whether you like the fish or not. so threads like these are just as pointless as threads trying to determine locations of Dovii just by looks.

A better and more useful way to describe location (rather than country) is the river of origin.

Fish from one river in, for example, Ecuador could be more different than fish from another river in Ecuador...than say fish from one river in Ecuador are different from another in Peru.

And their is variability in coloration, size and other aesthetic characteristics within populations of each.

So trying to rank fish from one country or the other makes about as much sense as trying to rank people from one country as more or less colorful / aethetically pleasing ;)

yeah that's what the map says.

Yeas if there's 100% separation then that's when Location labels should really matter.

please find Peru, Ecuador and importantly where Rio Tumbes is.

same, depends on genetics and fish and was it bred from along line of gravel sifters or from wild. may seem irrevelant but the mouth structure is a dead give away

I don't see a huge difference like you might see in some CA cichlids in location. It's genetics and buy from a reputable LFS or breeder.

I think what Jason is saying is it's not so much the location that matters, it's the imports from region to region and during certain time frames. There were some pretty questionable wc festae from rio tumbles that I think a lot of places received as wild caught but in reality were pond raised in South America. There were just too many that showed up deformed to all be wild caught. Maybe some were, maybe some weren't. And I don't think anyone receiving them had any idea that's what they were getting sent( often in huge quantities) before it was too late. To make it even more difficult, they were all small when received so culling all the deformed fish was impossible. Both areas produce stunning festae, but that insistent put a sour taste in many peoples mouths for tumbes festae.

This is much more important than any lines drawn onto a map.

These are the drainage basins. Fish within the same basin will be more similar than fish from different basins.
