I think they are the same fish lol, just my 2 cents. I don't believe for a minute that the Golden Monkey wasn't a zz x kamfa strain. kamalau originated from louhan, zz, kamfa imo, creating the GM which had bright yellows (original kamfa trait), and sometimes yellow pearlings(original kamfa trait), or some with really deep reds and strong flowerlines (which came from the zz), with the characteristic "Monkey Face". By "monkey face" the lip curls upwards and closes evenly like a kamfa, but almost looks like the zz's underbite and creates a monkeys pouting lips.
zzmalau is the one most people are sold, which display the zz type finnage and red eyes, as well as, the underbite. This is a reattempt to produce their own type of Kamalau. The kamalau is suppose to have aspects of the kamfa such as fan tail with wrap and a smaller gap than that of a zz, and inset eyes as well (kamfa trait), but not always the case. It also isn't suppose to have the long streamers or the droopy tail that the zz strain possessed, but you will often find that in todays kamalaus. The kamalau strain has been watered down since it's original state.
The Kamfamalau only differs because it is bred from an already crossed kamalau strain to a kamfa strain. I honestly I think they are the same fish, seeing that breeding a kamfa and zz can result in similar results of the standard kamalau. So basically youre cross breeding the zzxkamfa strain back to a kamfa.
I'm starting to go cross eyed!
