Then pay someone who knows what they're doing...
Lol, no satisfaction in that. Lots of people charge for their services, and then prove to be completely inept at the task. Others are capable...but then skimp on their time or talents or materials when doing the job for others for pay.

In general, it seems to me that folks living cheek-to-jowl in the city are more likely to subscribe to the "Just hire somebody to do it!" school of thought. Living in the country encourages the DIY mentality, simply because getting people to do it for you is much more costly, more difficult, slower and in some cases virtually impossible.

I'll say this: When doing it for myself...whatever "it" is...I derive immense satisfaction from completing the project, and I have rarely felt that the end product was in any way inferior to having it done by "pros" or "experts". I am usually working alone, often with simple hand tools rather than power gear, and the thing always goes much more slowly (obviously) but in the end that satisfaction factor is priceless, as is the knowledge that you are expanding your skill set and your ability to take care of yourself and your family.

For people who "get" that...no explanation is necessary. For those that don't...no explanation will suffice. :)

My comment was off the cuff sarcasm. Didn't expect so much follow up. I do think you should know your limits but what i do for myself vs what i have others help with is some internal formula of time, cost, urgency, risk, skill, etc. I try to handle what i can on my own, when i can't i turn to friends next and hired help last.

Y'all have some balls. An empty 50 gallons is just about what I safely lift and move on my own without tools or help. Tried it with the 90 gallon but its too long to lift safely. Can do 1 side at a time onto like a dolly or something though. I needed 4 guys to lift the 300 gallon onto its stand and it was hard work.

I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to glass...a 40 breeder is the max for me without a dolly. I do have a cart I got on ebay cheap but I haven't assembled it yet.

Acrylic me do mucho better. Hauled the 125 without a sweat.
