To my knowledge, the largest freshwater fish on record was that 646 lb Mekong giant catfish caught a little over 10 years ago. However, there may be a bigger arapaima, piraíba, wels, etc., that has yet to be caught. What's everyone's thoughts on what the word's largest fish (in mass) is?

Mekong is number 4. And most fish are measured in weight, not mass. The other 3 are 4x, 2x and 2x the weight of the Mekong.
Just for the sake of argument, let's say that the two sturgeon species as well as the bull shark are disqualified because they are not strictly freshwater fish (the giant freshwater stingray might also be disqualified too, because it is possible that they travel across marine environments).

Sorry that was my bad. Meant to say weight.

Not this again haha.

Mekong cats are probably the largest fish that live full freshwater all the time
