if your nitrates or over, say, 10ppm.. it's not a waste

Very good call!!! Plus 2 week changes are excellent if you can, nothing better than new water for your fish.

When I went to pick up frags to start my nano, the guy I picked up from had a 75 completely stacked with corals, and some smaller fish, it was amazing. I asked him what he did and he told me nothing really, saying he does a WC maybe every six months, other than that the only new water is top off water.
I personally believe that with light enough stocking, and enough LR, that it is completely feasible. I understand everyone preaching WC's but if you params are all in check, there isn't a major advantage imo to doing so.

Holy crap! Three weeks at the most! I think I need to get some chaeto for my diy AC110 fuge instead of more live rock in there. And I use 1.25 lbs per gal with water flow 20x tank volume per hour.

2 years......

And the water parameters were perfect.:D

Of course it all ended when the pump died and I had to replace it.
After that, It never stayed clean :(

I have often read of cases where marine keepers have NEVER done a water change. There is a retailer here in the UK that breeds whitetip and other sharks, and claims not to have changed the water in over 10 years!

There is a coral tank at my LFS that has gone untouched for 5 years. possibly more. And it's beautiful. I'll try and get a pic of it and post it up.

How much live rock do you have Bgonz??? That would def be a major factor in your water quality. I have gone 6mths without a change but recently made a new sump with a big plenum so will see how far i can push it now.
Also if anyone said salt tanks are hard work they have their setup all wrong,,,more expensive than fresh yes, and takes some time for the eco sstem to develop but if done right then is easy.

Hey Rick, I'm not really sure how much/lbs of rock I have but I'll tell you the tank is more than 1/2 full of rock. It used to be a full blown reef tank until the Angel grew up :screwy: I havent added any chemicals in over 3 years either, so I'm a little surprised the rock is still growing stuff. I think the biggest reason for the tanks success is the food I feed. I bet if I fed flakes or pellets it would have crashed a long time ago.
