A pregnant crayfish escaped my tank. I found her a week later after following the trail of dead mummy babies leading to her mummy under my computer desk.
At my shop a big cray got loose... SOMEHOW. I can only think someone got him out of the cray tank without us realizing or.. I don't know. We found a crispy crayfish behind a guinea pig cage at the front of the shop, probably sixty, seventy feet from the cray tank.
heres a good crayfish one. i was on vacation for a week and my crayfish somehow escaped my 30 gallon fell on the floor went down the stairs into the laundry room where he dried to a crisp, covered in hair. it must have took him a day to get down the stairs or he just rolled down em lol
Worst of mine so far happened a few weeks ago. Was doing a water change, siphoning water into a 5 Gal jug. I walked away for a bit so I wasn't watching the hose inlet.
As I was dumping the water into the sink, I had the garbage disposal running to flush the water through faster. When the jug was almost empty, I saw an Otto Cat zip out and go right down the drain before I could react.
Least is was over fast for him. I check the jugs before dumping them now too.
I saw this tank of convicts brutalize a large feeder comet about 3 times the size of any con in there. Took about 5 minutes for it to die with the fins being nipped off first, followed be the eyes being ripped out and then the belly torn apart..all while a lfs employee sat there in enjoyment
Having 8 tanks at one time I have had a few brutal deaths-
In the saltwater the foam intake screen came off a powerhead and my goby decided to investigate- all that stuck out was the very tip of his tail. Didn't find him for 2 days.
My last workplace allowed me to keep an Eclipse 3 at my desk. Had two small dwarf puffers (lot of water changes). One was more aggressive than the other. Had done a water change on Thursday (off Fri & Sat). Came in Sunday and was missing a puffer. Then noticed the screen on the filter intake was off- fish stick in the impeller. Other one had harassed it until it tried to hide in the filter. Kicker was that I had brought a container to take home the puffer that was being harassed that day.
This was almost a double fatality. Saltwater tank again- keeping 2 small GS puffers with one blue spotted sharpnosed puffer. Everyone getting along great (2 GSP were previously keep together with no problems for a year). One day my favorite GSP Bud was missing. Looked on the floor near the tank- he was there. Had jumped out of the tank- despite the lid. He had been a very calm fish (named after laid back friend). Didn't know what had upset him enough to jump out. Two months later found out. I was at work but my husband saw my cat slamming the front of the tank- fish were going nuts. He yelled at the cat - stopped and came back later. Husband heard the banging again and when to check in time to see the sharpnosed puffer jump out and hit the floor with the cat making a bee line for the fish. He grabbed the fish and got him back in the tank. Cat was just not listening so he got an education. Placed a half full bucket of warm (not hot) water near the tank. Cat started again - husband grabbed the cat and dunked his butt (yes literally his rear end) in the bucket. Cat has never banged on any of the tanks again. Yeah little cruel but the fish's death was more cruel- besides the cat needed a bath anyway. Same cat has his own tank - on a lower shelf and the cat sits and watches it- puffer in it comes to the front when cat is there- but he does not bang on the tank
A dog got into my room one day and chewed the shroud for an aqua clear HOB, but i used it anyways, and a fish went missing...found it the next day stuck in the pipe with its body all mangled against the impeller of the pump...i quickly fed him to my turtle feeling ashamed.
