whats the smallest tank rays has been bred in?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What you have to understand is that "what is the smallest....." is never going to get a very positive response.
I would personally build in some boxing around the pool and have a liner inside with it as a fail safe.

i dunno Toby..its a pretty simple, non offensive question...if people get an attitude over my topic then they have some real mental problems.

thanks for all the input. what are you meaning by "boxing around the pool" ?
its going to be a rectangle made of stacked 4x4's . On the inside i will first put a plastic liner. then i will put styro around the inside. Then i will put in the 45mm liner.

as far as separating the pups. with my design my pond is actually going to be my 125g and my 95g's sump. All connected.
i found a 7500g pond filter thats comes with a 3600gph pump. the water will go to the filter..i am going to split the return line and have it go to my 125 and my 95g tanks. From my 125 the water will drain into my wet/dry filter and then return into the pond. From the 95g..pretty much the same thing..the 95 has a overflow that will be used as a wet/dry and will return to the pond. The tubing i am going to be using is 1 and a half inch for my intake and return on my first filter.
Both the 125 and the 95g tanks will have Two 1 and a quarter pvc return pipes. I am going to have pvc pipe on the top inner part of the pond with holes drilled every 3" ..so i can get almost 0 dead spots.

so anyway..my 125 will be housing my smaller male MM and my female pearl and if i am lucky enough to get some pups i will put them in there.
my 95g will hold all my air stones and most of my heat. it will also have a magnum 350 filtering it.
the 125 will have another canister filter with a 300w inline heater and i might drop in a couple air balls for the rays to play in.
so, yeah..thats it in a nutshell.

A young breeding pair of motoro in a 48"x30"x15". As they grew they were eventually moved to a bigger tank.

What size were they when they bred in that tank? What was the actual water depth factoring in substrate depth and fill point?

When I first read the thread title I was looking forward to hearing about the shallowest tanks they've bred in. Unfortunately the thread got off track.

Why not keep it 8x4 but when you make it make it to where you can put in a divider at the 4x4 mark. That way you only separate if you have to. This would give them more area for most of the time.
