Bull sharks frequent fresh water, and even have been found to breed there now. Suggesting that they can survive without salt water throughout an entire life cycle. BULL SHARKS!!!!

Because of the fact that these are endless discussion threads. Its a fun subject to talk about, but these threads don't really contribute anything. They belong here in the lounge.

since when did we change the rules for the lounge (or any other area for that matter?) based on the publicly seen description, this belongs in general. i didn't know how helpful the thread is is a deciding factor or where a thread belongs

Forum: The Lounge

Discussion of ANYTHING non-fish related. NOTE: This section doesn't accumulate towards your post count.

If we're including anadromous fish, they're definitely something to consider!

Damn that's an impressive fish. They definitely do seem to be something like a freshwater whale shark analog. Neat stuff like this guy is why I love this hobby.

Now if I could only figure out a way to keep an adult kaluga...

Monsters Kalugas like that are probably as rare as a 15 foot gator gar at this point. Seeing as though they are slaughtered for there eggs for caviar. Its illegal now, but it still doesn't stop people from getting to something worth more then gold per ounce.

Getting your hands on a juvie would probably require going to eastern Russia, then illegally getting it back. So sad really, it would be amazing seeing one of these guys in a public aquarium!

It was an issue discussed in the staff section. The logic is that this thread has become a long, pointless discussion that is little more than people expressing opinions. As such, it has become something of a casual conversation and belongs in the lounge. This isn't the first 'fish related' thread to be moved out of GAD and it certainly won't be the last. There's already an well established precedent for this happening. In fact, in the first five pages of the lounge (which goes back about a month), there are about a dozen threads that would be better suited to another area that are in the lounge, to include that stupid pleco mouse thread (which, by your strict interpretation, never should have left GAD either). Why is it just now an issue?

I really didn't see myself posting in this thread but what the hell..

The sole premise of this thread should logically be that any contender should be set out to kill the other fish.. no such thing as putting one fish in a tank with another with an established territory..

If that was the case i actually dont even see a gatf coming out alive from a tank with a male convict.. you take the gatf, drop it into a tank with a convict that little puny guy WILL go straight for the tigers' nuts.. the tiger WILL spook and kill itself against the glass in 0.2 seconds flat..

Same goes for many fish that are badasses within their own established territories..

Arowanas are pretty capable biters and swallowers in theory but are often spooked ir killed by ridicilous fish just because the opt to flee, something that they cant do in our restricted spaces..

With this said i would have to go with the electric eel.. as soon as the gong gong sounded it would unleash every last bit of electricity it could possibly summon and that would be the end in 90 percent of the cases..

In a straight brawl i'd put my money on the big atf sp's, then redline snakeheads (i've seen a 23 year old/3-4' one and that is the only fish i wouldnt swim with) then aimara etc.. pretty much anything with big teeth..

In one big river im pretty sure something totally unexpected like temensis or paraiba would be the dominant sp.. temensis outgrows the gatf 3-1 for their first years and are more capable hunters from start and spawn in greater numbers.. sure, there will be some big gatfs cruising around debuttitating big cichla but their young will be eaten by the cichlas and big catfish..

Speculations about theories..

Not all of them are anandromous.
Quite a few private owners keep Beluga, Kaluga would be the same but alot harder to acquire.
I'll PM you a few links tomorrow.

by my strict interpretation? i'm just showing you what the site you're moderating says. i was unaware that you guys were discussing and changing how you go about things. i'll be looking forward to seeing every NLS vs thread (past the first 30-4o posts) in here too since conversation piece type threads where opinions are being shared instead of facts now belong in the lounge
