The other one i thought of was the keyhole cichlid, stays small (6")

dang those look neat. i think you could have quite an assortment of ram sized cichlids in a 30 gallon.

i still assert that you could keep a couple acaras in there. as always bigger is better, but your tank can definitely hold a couple of 6" fish.

btw did i miss somewhere you were looking for fish for hard water?

pH and hardness will determine the right choice basically. If you have hard water, nanoluteus like duanes suggested would probably be the best CA cichlid for your tank. I have had success having a pair of HRP/convicts in 20 gallons in the past. I also just tried to keep my panamensis in a 30" tank to get them to breed, and the male beat the female. So it's hit or miss with cryptoheros types in a 30" tank IMO. But the nanoluteus is the smallest of them, and a bit less mean, so a good bet.
With softer water, or even just with neutral-ish stable water, I think the cacatoides you posted or keyholes would be great choices. The ram would work too but personally I don't like the "balloon" fish or other mutations like that.

most def will look in acara's. this micro tank thing is fun, I like how i used to have fish bigger than this tank hahahahaha

How about a brackish setup with a orange/golden chromide? It's a beautiful brackish cichlid!
Or u could do a small saltwater reef....

I love my appistogramma borelli, could do some glowlight and a small fancy pleco and some cories comfortably. Add sand lots of twisted driftwood, almond leaves and plants/moss done:-)

I have kept Apistos and Bolivian Rams before...basically they are the only SA Cichlids i have kept lol. They are not very hardy and are more delicate than most. You will need 'very soft low ph' water to keep them successfully. If you want to do a planted tank they would be a great addtion. They actually 'should' be kept in a planted tank. Go buy a CO2 bottle, a high PAR light and get all R2D2...and be prepared to scrape algae for a living. Apistos are stunning little fish and are worth building a tank around a pair of nice ones.

Now depending on your TPW Para's if you do have hard water you could have a colony of Tangyanikan shell dwellers....
