whats with IT pricing lately?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was in San Jose a couple of months ago visiting my favorite aquarium store and they had a tank with eight or so 5-6" ITs. These are the varety in which one of the central bars has been reduced to a small blob or streak and they try to pass these off as STs or CTs (I'm sure most of you have seen them). Anyway, they were asking $550.00 per fish. I spun around and walked out.

i've been noticing an increase of IT pricing lately. 5-6" ITs going for $85 if not more. are they not being imported as of now or just a lul in small ones being imported? seems like all i see is small NTTs and ATs

I know. But like Fish Room Plus said, IT are not around that much so again its supply and demand. But wow... 2x price increase from last year.

Last year, a 7-8" indo sells for $100 but now its $200. Is the doubling in price justified? I don't think so but to each to his own I guess.

By the way, I'm selling my 8-9" IT for $100 :grinno: Had to get it in there.

As far as I know all dats are wild caught (post a link to a dat breeding facility to prove me wrong)....also ....Water pollution is what drove STs extinct not hobbyists. ....

Yup as far as i know too they are wild caught but the recent importation of NTTs and ATs seems to be that they are bred commercially because of their size....

by the way i found this info amonth ago....

its all the thousands that are being taken from the wild

its us as fish keepers that are killing the wild population

NGT used to be the hardest to find then ST were finished in the wild so the importers needed more supple so they moved on to NGT

give it 5-10 years and say bye to most tigers

the problem is they take years to mature so Evey year we are taking more and more this has a big impact on the future wild breeding stock
These are my fears as well,I brought up a few months ago the question of all of the baby dats that were in the stores here and likely in the stores in other areas. If we cant get these fish to breed in captivity then we will lose them.Indos in the size range of three inches used to go for twenty to thirty dollars here but this spring and so far I have'nt seen any around.

My 9" IT cost me $500 U.S. I haven't seen another one for the past couple of years in the lfs here in Manitoba, Canada. I have seen ntt, $350 for a 5" one. I let that one pass. It makes me cry when I read what other people are paying for fish, 1/10 of what I pay.

I can imagine what a Pulcher would cost up there. How much do the NGT go for?
