Lately I have noticed a big BOOM in Victorian posts. I have logged on to see 5 or 6 threads about Vics and no new posts on much of anything else. Is there a reason for this? Personally I feel that Vics are nice fish but they are not for everyone, and I know that many feel that way about the fish I keep. I just feel a bit bored when all I see is Vic talk because I have no interest in them. Im sure no one cares if I like Vics or not but it would be nice to see a bit more variety. :end rant:

Well after keeping tons of Mbuna, peacocks, etc... some like the new challenge of the Vics. I'm personally keeping them to try and keep them clean, unhybridized and from going extinct in the hobby and in the wild. Plus they have some of the best colors I have seen.

I once dated a girl named Victoria, I don't see myself ever keeping them. I will like them for a couple of months, then get tried of them and move on to their friends.

In all honesty I never really had an intrest in them either untill I started reading others threads about them and I wouldnt mind having a species specific vic tank as a project. The ones I like are a good size and wont require a large tank and they have some really nice colors =]

Then again I ve had a lot of mbuna and got over that. I love Tang's but I am getting bored with my tank b/c I dont know what to do yet. (thats for another thread).

Its just like when frontosa were all over the place and nothing else was new. I got bored. No point in replying b/c everyone that knows there stuff is going to say the same thing so why repeat it. Why not start a thread on something intresting about the fish you keep??

I think fish keeping is cyclical. I know for me after a while with one type of fish I usually do a complete change and move to another. I recently picked up 4 species of vics to keep. they have some amazing colors in the males. I think as people pick a few up and start posting it starts a buzz about them and other people decide to make a change. But, that will probably change too as people get bored and get new fish.

I have to point out that you are likely seeing things a little skewed.

In other words I would say it is more like you aren't seeing as many people asking us to ID yellow labs, and other obviously Africans. I honestly don't know why that is. Vics have always been around. But I doubt many types will ever hit the popularity of the Malawis.

I can say that at least in my area Africans appear to be slowly loosing some of there popularity they once had. (Not like they aren't still popular, just that I am seeing more SA/CA fish now.)

Also I wonder how many of the Vic threads are started by just a small selection of the people that post here. It all just matters on who has the time and is willing to post.

(Plus heck, I only like to post things about fish that everyone doesn't have... And while I have a lot of Malawis that not many people have. There are a lot more Vics that are uncommon.)

Victorian/Malawi all beautiful fish and worth keeping.
I just enjoy the keeping and watching them interact with each other.
I dont have as many fish (Species) as i would like to have, But i do enjoy reading the threads others leave on here and i learn from what all of you write.
So as far as i am concerned keep posting on all subjects.

I would agree...It is probably only 5 or 6 of us on a reugular basis posting about the Vics. I guess were just always on so it seems like a lot more post to people.

I agree with the cyclical idea. A lot of the vics more rare or hard to obtain Vics have become easily attainable. This just shows that there are great breeding programs going and people are sharing the wealth. It all evens out eventually. One day, we will have a new hot fish.
