what's worse?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the fish can swim very freely (assuming we arent talking about a 3 ft fish in a 4 ft tank) I would assume a small fish, taking my gsp at 2 inches would be better off in a 5 gal withought any nitrates/amonia is better than a 30 gal with maybe no filtration or just no water changes.

BOTH

More filtration is better than no filtration...if the fish can still swim comfortably. If its like a full grown oscar in a 20g tank...well that's much different. It would be too stressed either way.

cool thanks guy's..i'l keep up with my weekly 40-50% w/c's and checking my water parameter's...

Seems you now think it is OK to keep you fish in a tank that is too small? Why would you not be able to do proper maintainence on a larger tank?

ok...the tank i've got at the moment is 350lt 4ft tank stocklist is

36x2"-6" clown loaches
2x4" geo's
5x1" tiger barbs
1x6" rotkeil
1x4" archer

it is running a 3ft sump and a fluval 2..fish are all doing well as in there's swimming space and they dont seem stress at all...a bigger tank is on the cards..
so i guess iam the two O's overstock and overfiltered!..but when do you actually know that you are overstock?

maintenance is of no issues at all..but space for a bigger tank is! just that those damm loaches are so COOL in a big pack!!

Six one way and a half dozen the other. The creatures that we take on as "our pets" should have the best of both worlds, the same as we would want it.

Example...My ex-wife got a cat from a friend. The friend took the cat away from her Dad because she feared for it's life. The cat had been kept in a cat carrier from a kitten tell it was three years old. The man done it because the other cats he had picked on it.
The cat's belly was dragging the ground and could not walk well. It was always kept clean and fed very well.
After years of treating the cat right it now is seven years old and is in great health.
So if it was the other way and he had room and nasty living conditions, he would have still needed rescue and rehab.
Life and health is a balancing act, with deadly consequences when things are off balance.
Our pets ain't really ours, but just on loan for a very short time.
