Whats wrong with Humanity........... controversial but alot truth too

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One child is wrong, it caused a HUGE ratio problem where there is wayyy too many guys to girls and guys there are now having issues getting married. Vice did a great piece on it for their HBO show.

2 or 3 though.. I mean cmon limit yourself a lil for the good of future humans. That's what I always think about, what will people think about us now 100-200 years from now? Honestly and this is so cheesy but we are at the turning point in what this generation will go down in history for

Will they say oh good! They did the right thing and limited themselves and now everyone has the resources they need without having to cause problems getting more (resource wars, even more habitat destruction etc) or will they say we were greedy gluttonous narcissists that gobbled up all the resources we could, killed off too many species to count, cut down the rainforests and the alpines and left them picking at the scraps

That's what its all about really, the resources are getting very expensive in general as of late and its stressing the whole system. To be frank, population control is a guaranteed way to reduce the amount of resources used. That is what the UN will sell it to the world as because its the truth, they'll say do you want your great great grandchildren to have anything left?

I want people 100 years from now to be able to do what we and past generations have done. Not for it to collapse and leave them with a broken system and no direction

Hello; This is well stated. I was considering making such a post but now do not have to.

Back in the 70's there was a attempt to get a movement going based on ZPG (zero population growth). The idea being that each person replace only his/her self. Under this concept a couple would have only two offspring during their lives. That would have halted the world population growth at some billions less than is actually is today. The concept did not take hold. Not only was there a pushback even stronger than those comments expressed so far in this current thread, but many have gone to fertility enhancing treatments.

To be more clear on my crude expression about not wearing a leopard skin (endangered species) coat in a previous post. I do live a comfortable enough life even with an attempt at a reduced impact. I am not doing without, just trying to make do with less. However, it has always seemed to me that no amount of lower impact living, at least in the USA, can be as substantial as being childless. Even the most poor among us have some level of impact. The more well off have an exponentially greater impact. After fourty four years of following these environmental issues, I now fear that it is essentially too late to avoid the worst of the consequences.

Recognition has not happened yet, but a remaining small hope is that at some point those of us who did remain childless will be given some measure of credit for our attempt to help set things right. I am sure there are some making even greater efforts than I to ensure a liveable future, but I hope to make the list.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Im under the impression nowadays Americans ARE having much fewer kids, and its immigration sending OUR population through the roof??

Hello; I know this link does not answer your specific question about USA births and population and if someone else does not post the info I will try to find it. I have not kept up with the details the last few years but think some indusralized countries have a native birth rate in decline. If I recall correctly the discussion around birth rates is not always simple. There was a bulge in USA population after WWII (Baby boomers of which I am a part) and we may have indeed been having smaller famlies, but there were so many of us.

My on hand data is likely a bit dated so I will do some checking for current rates. I do think the native USA birth rate has been declining and may be approaching a 2.1 rate but am not sure.

Check out this link.

Either way we are keeping people alive a LOT longer then EVER before. It scares the hell out of me that family will keep you alive even though your mind is gone. It really feels like, in some cases, that we are keeping them alive for purely our own benefit and none to their own.

My father died when I was in middle school, from 5th grade on we knew what was happening and the first real job I ever had was as a caregiver to him, I call it a job because it was real work, not something I expected to gain anything from other then helping my parents.

He had ALS, usually with als (Lou Gehrig disease is a common name) your body goes first, as in as you lose control of your muscles and you can still think clearly. He had the opposite, very rare and harder to deal with. His mind went first, his walking was OK for a bit but our biggest fear was him walking off for a short time. Very short because he needed a walker and a helper for stairs not 6 months in, he never did walk off and seemed to hold some sense of knowing what was happening. By the time it was the summer between 6th and 7th grade he could only say my name, my sisters name, his brothers names, his own dads, and mish. The closest he got to Michele my moms name. He recognized people though, if one of his brothers or friends or other fam came over to watch hockey or football with him his eyes would light up and would laugh and actually have a smile. I sat with him myself most of my time, id go through our movie collection and show him the cover of each up close and if his eyes said so it was going on. I don't know how forgetful he was as he could only speak names.. He still cried, laughed, smiled, frowned. By the spring he was in fast decline, although he never forgot my name or my sis or mom, he forgot his brothers. When they'd show up he would know though, you could tell by his eyes and smile.

Towards the end he couldn't say even our names, he'd start with my name or my sis and only come out with the first syllable. He started taking longer to pick out a movie, and again in the eyes I could tell he was fading. We tried a Dyna machine, the type to talk thing early on and as expected he couldn't do it as he could barely type before lol he never went on a computer literally never haha. Closest thing was playing Mario kart with me. We, well my mom had a choice that she took a while to conclude, she asked us, his family even talked with him about it before he stopped being able to converse fully. We were told he could still live for a time still in a home or hospital but home would get too hard, but he would more then likely completely forget us all eventually even before death.

He told my mom he wanted to pass in my house surrounded by family, not in some random home or hospital room with not a drop of his own blood in the building. So we set a date, and with everyone he loved was injected with something idk to make him pass. He looked at me my mom and sister all on his right and smiled, that last little twinkle of intelligence. I don't think anyone could understand the feeling of holding someones hand as they die while looking right into their eyes. Nothing is as intense while being so calm.

His last moments were exactly how he wanted, which at least to me is good. He knew what was happening enough to acknowledge it, to have last moments with his family one on one before. I mean could you ask for a better way given the circumstances? I don't think so. But all too often I hear or see someone at a nursing home who's eyes are dead yet we have kept the body alive, so family can come visit them? If they had a single lucid couple of hours, what do you think they would want given the knowledge of their condition? Death. To have a nice, peaceful death with friends and family at their sides. To me keeping them alive for so long is just not right. Nobody wants to visit people in that condition, of dead eyes and no brain activity. I'm not saying put sick people to death, but, if you, your soul, personality is dead with no hope of getting better, you wouldn't want to be alive. At a certain point it just HAS to be a loved one not ready to lose them completely even if there is no chance of any recall at all ever.

I'm so sorry if this upsets anyone, but would you want to be alive with no knowledge of anything, in a strange place, just to chill till your body gives out? Nope. Not me. Not anyone IMO, keeping them like this needs to stop, so resources can be averted to people who can be helped. Who have a chance.
