What's wrong with hybrids?

yeh but people are never going to be honest, cos we dont live in an honest world, so pretty much all u can do is not buy a fish that you dont know.

personally, i'm all for hybrids, as long as they arn't easily confused with other fish.
Blood parrots, flowerhorns, big cat hybrids, etc, are all fine with me.
Granted I have a fish that is a hybrid that could be confused with otherfish, but am fine with him, because i have no plans for breeding.

ppl in the hobby of fish keeping want to keep the pure species of fish available... when you mix fish and sell them or give them away as pure that impure strand will be mixed with pure inevitably killing the pure nloodline of the fish at some point... i love Hybrids but some dont the same way some love SH and some hate them for there invasivness... to eachs own... just breed hybrids and make sure there is no mistaking you lable them hybrids...

I guess it would depend on what the hybrid is. For people who take their breeding seriously, keeping a line pure is very important.

For example, the Victorian Basin Cichlids are endangered. Making hybrids of these fish, and then distributing them, could muddy the bloodlines to the point that no true blood of these species exist, anywhere. Not in the lake, and not in our tanks.

The next problem with hybrids is aggression levels. You may not know what traits will come out in a hybrid. You may have one that goes on a killing spree, and empty your tank.

A lot of species are really cool enough, without having to make hybrids. Keeping hybrids is a personal choice, but distributing them without knowledge is unfair to the people that would purchase true blood fish.

Ahh...Yes, I agree with you completely in that aspect. Thats why we should promote awareness and honesty.

I agree on the idea of raising awareness and honesty, but another problem is ignorance, which is the case in many of the "omg my bay snook spawned with a midas...bro you want some of the fry" situations in which at some point the resulting offspring will be passed off as pure but not in a malicious or dishonest way, just by the fact that the person who eventually has fish whose ancestors resulted from that spawning does not know that they are hybrids for one reason or another.
