What's wrong with my Convict pair?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
how long did you leave the fry with them before removing it? i removed the fry from my convict pair shortly after it became free swimming - which caused a similar problem to what you are experiencing. have they had many spawns before? i find if you leave the fry with them longer, or only take half it stops them from being like this - depressed. Cichlids are very intelligent and are suceptable to depression. i noticed mine began to perk up after a couple of days, just provide them with clean water and keep trying them with food, otherwise they can obtain other diseases etc. i also found with my pair, by adding a few dithers, i used black neon tetras, it took their minds of it and they were themselves again in no time.
Hope this helps.

Well everyone is perfectly fine today :)
I now get greeted when I walk by the tank and for food! They are spending quite a bit of time in the cave so I'm thinking they bred again... but since they're comfortable I'll leave it in there and dispose of the eggs if I have too.
I really appreciate everyone's help especially CaChilids.

Mine stress out for an hour or so if I pull fry. They pick up on it pretty quickly, though you can tell they're worked up. The female starts turning over the sand like a parent looking for a lost child in a ball pit.

Mine have never been too shy about water changes. They'll actually eat in the middle of them. (had to try)
