I have a diy w/d i made under my 29g tank with a 1" overflow pipe drilled in the back . When I run my pump from the w/d , (1) its gurgling really loudly , do I add a T and have the vent tube to with a cap and a lil hole on it ?

the way i plumbed the intake to the sump is a male piece , gasket , tank , female piece . I then used a reducing piece to make it a 3/4" threaded barb , adding a 90* plastic barb connecting to a long hose that goes in to a filter sock . the return to the tank is the same way for the bulkhead fitting , but obviously the long tube goes to a ball valve which is connected directly to my mag drive 7 . heres the problem . when i run it , it gurgles , as stated earlier , but for some weird reason , i keep running out of water in my sump . its a 10g . idk whats going on but its really frustrating . i put a lot of time , money and effort in to this thing and i keep running in to road blocks . idk whats wrong with the design .

i hope you guys can help

Well, you're running out of water in your sump because your pump is too powerful for the size overflow you have... By reducing your intake to 3/4", you are greatly reducing the flow. I would plumb an external durso to your overflow and run it down into your sump into the sock below the sump's water level. Won't be totally silent but will be a lot better.

Yes pump too strong. Even with a mag 7 and 1" pvc you are still going to have to throttle down the pump with a ball valve. make sure your overflow is 1" all the way thru. no restrictions. when all is said and done and working correctly, take a piece of airline tube and stick it in the overflow intake a little bit. This will quiet down the gurgling sound

This pump has a 3/4" output, but as you can see, I have a 1" union attached to a reducer threaded into a 3/4. Once you get used to playing around in the PVC section of your hardware store, putting this into that until you find the right combination.

okay so my overflow must be 1" all the way thru ? 1" pvc straight down to the sump ? I was under the impression that soft tubing is better because its flexible and can't leak air ?

and for my return , does that have to be 1" as well , or can i run that at 1/2" and make it 1" at the bulkhead fitting ?

My bulkhead fittings are leaking . I heard they sell the gaskets at home depot , but idk where at .
