You don't want to choke the line to your sump. It doesn't matter PVC or flexible, as long as its big enough to handle the flow. You can choke the return line to the tank a bit.
You can buy gaskets at Home depot in the toilet repair section.
Did you use teflon tape on the threads?
And a tee with a cap might work to stifle noise.
This cap helped mine, it does have a 1/4" hole drilled in it, and it just perches atop the screen
