What's wrong with my festae?

Festae are fairly susceptible....not like bartoni or haitiensis, but still fairly common for that species. Any stressor causes it...change in food, water issues, tankmates, etc. Im not sure why he got it, but im fairly certain that he has it.

Some will tell you metronidiazole... Im fine with either. Clout is cheaper and works better in my opinion. You can get it in 100 tab bottles from most online pet stores. Good luck.

IMO you should look for whatever is stressing them and fix that. I do agree that festae are more easily stressed but this is the first I've read of them being susceptible to bloat. My large pair died not long ago and I do believe it was because they were unduly stressed from a move to a new tank with new tankmates but neither ever showed signs of bloat.

I do agree that it sounds like these festae in question are stressed so figuring out what is causing it is the best way to get them back to acting normal. I'm wondering if these festae may not be reacting well to their tankmates. My pair always did fine when they were kept alone and when they were kept with other festae as juveniles, but it was when I moved them to a new tank where they had tankmates when they died. Neither looked like they were being picked on at any time after I moved them, and the female was eating fine though when I moved the male he didn't eat well at first.

Bud_Man, how big are your festae? 30 gallons is rather small unless the festae are still very small (3" or less). If they're much bigger than that then tank size could be what's stressing them.

BTW, what is the ph, hardness and temps of your guys' tanks?

:)
