I got him a week ago and he eats really lightly gets a little bullied by the blue acara (Added at the same time) his fins are always clamped up and sometimes he almost swims like a pufferfish but atleast ten times a day I see him scratching sideways on rocks and my pots :screwy::confused::(
Luckily he is the only one doing this but the blue acara has taken to nose rubbing the glass a lot. (Its a 55 gallon both the cichlids are 3" )
any suggestions appreciated.

He's sulking in this otherwise happy pic :irked: (On the right)

Bump fizzle he is still clamped up scratching on rocks

Both of those symptoms are associated with some type of parasite. Ive had a fish in this condition before.

Although it didnt seem to affect the fish at all. So I wasnt sure and just observed the fish for a few months and it didnt seem to slow him down a bit.

1st off, observe the fishes body and look for any actual parasites visible, or any sores or discoloration or anything that doesnt look right. If you find nothing it could be flukes that are practically invisible.

I waited it out with my fish and the fins didnt straighten out, but I gave it away. If I was in your position I would medicate.

I would bring him back and get a healthy fish
Thats a good plan im going to petsmart tommorow and I really don't have the energy or spare tanks to medicate him in. My hospital tank has a recovering molly my mom is attached to so I straightened him out quite well for her. And the quarantine tank has a delhezi bichir in it.

And YES the tank is cycled good question :)

Im loving the blue acara though lol. And my Bichir will always be my favorite fish (My first bichir had him 5 months now)

Went and looked at the tank and he was swimming in barrel roles. I put him in a 5 gallon container with an airstone.. I don't see him recovering.

Parameters are
PH8.3
ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-20

just take it back to the store if you can, maybe you can get another once your tank is ready and you know your fish are ok
