looks like skin abrasion.. rays are known to be super-sensitive to chlorine, and certain medications that are not suitable for them.. they demand almost-perfect water quality.. i might be wrong.. n im sure other people in this forum will come to the rescue~

There is no heater in my tank.. It's with another 5 rays for almost 6 months. Here is another pic.

Hard to tell from the picture but is the white area raised at all? 5 rays in one tank? What size tank? Have you checked your water parameters?

Is it erosion of the denticles (skin missing) or is that growth on it's back?

Looks like its been chewed on.

The only time i have ever seen something like that was when a ray was shipped and the bag leaked leaving the top of the ray out of the water for an extended period of time.
