IMO. The fish don't even look the same. The first to picks the white stripe going along the side is very destinctive where on the original it's barely there. I think it's just changing from the substrate. I had black rocks in the bottom of mine then went to glass bottom he got a little lighter but it wasn't that huge of a change.
Not sure but could just be stress. My little guy is like black black (he does have a clean white stripe though), but my big guy that was brought home a week or so ago is very very light colored and his white stripe is pinkish. Maybe my big guy is just that way... but my little guy changes colors when you move things around or tick him off. He can go from his black black color to like a greyish brownish color and his stripe will get pinkish too.
I think if it was stress he wouldnt be eating. And he still eats like crazy. Last night one of the pacu stole some tilapia from his mouth and he didnt like that. haha chased him till he dropped it. Those pacu are crazy. Its got to be the substrate. But my dad said i could be that the PH is too high.
