Hi,

I got a new puffer about 2 weeks ago. The thing was really skinny. So I started to fatten the fish up. Fish is all happy and healthy right now. But just the other day I was really watching and examining the fish. And I noticed on one side of the fish there is a darker area on the skin, and the area is sorta concave. This is located on the fishes side near the stomach. I'm not sure if its a birth defect, a scar from a previous injury or what. Does this description sound like anything that I should be concerned about? Fish acts healthy and happy, eats normally, poops fine, water conditions are great, regular waterchanges etc.

Here is a picture of the area, sorry for the poor quality of the picture:

I would treat the puffer for IPs. Do a search in the Hospital section at my forum.

What kind of meds would you use to treat internal parasites? BTW, I have been adding liquid garlic to the food. But I don't know if it is helping.

I hate seeing GSP's at our our one lfs...they are always so sick looking because he feeds all the fish he has there the same thing, so they don't get the food they need or like, I always feel so bad for them. I buy them and try to recover them but it never works out, there was a total of 2 of them out of the 11 I have had in the last year that have pulled through and made a very nice comeback from their death bed. I wish that he would just stop shipping in GSP's to his store, they never look good and turns into a rescue mission for me. I wish more would pull through.

What method do you think is best? Treating the whole tank with a tablet like jungle labs parasite clear, or an oral medication I can feed with the food?

In all honesty, your fueling the shops reason to get more GSP's in because you keep buying them all up which adds to his sales, increasing his profit margin... so in turn he sees they sell well, so he/she gets more in...

Personally speaking, i find its best to soak the food in the meds if possible so the puffer gets the most of the meds... so i would say the oral medication you can feed with the food...

Unfortunately i'm not familiar with the meds you guys get over there (since i'm in Hong Kong), but i'm sure PP will be around soon enough to help you out with whats the best meds to use to help your puff...

Nice puffer, I just wanted to say good luck. And keep us posted.
