Its an injury for sure. As the others said, just keep the water quality up and you will be fine. How are the monos?

Had one of my bass do a similar thing on a spiky piece of wood I had in my tank. I've since removed that piece and purchased a more smooth display piece.

As the others have mentioned, keep up the water changes. Good water quality healed mine up fast.

I've had a few spawns recently, but no luck with the hatch. Glad to hear that your monos are doing great. Shoot a pic of them when you have a chance.

when mine hit the top of the tank or rock or anything they do that and will peal skin away from the head and mouth i just add salt and it heals with in a few days to week depending on the size of the gouge
