Does anyone have a cichlid they just have not had good luck with? Texas cichlids for me. I have had three and they have all died. No trouble with other cichlids, but I just can't seem to keep a texas cichlid alive! So what is achiles heel in fishkeeping?

Mine, strangely enough, has been oscars. The first couple times I tried, they would get beat by whoever the tankmates were, everything from severums to firemouth. I tried different sizes, different order of introduction, no luck. Then the last one, that officially made me give up on them, came with an infection that caused all it's scales to just fall off, then they would die. After I found out the problem (as the rest of them in the tank I bought it from had this and died) I returned it before it could die. It's just not meant for me.:(

Not sure if it is true, but I have read that Texas cichlids are more sensitive to water quality than most other cichlids.

Maybe, but that shouldn't be the issue with me as I am a 20 ppm nitrate freak. When it hits 20 ppm, I do a water change.

for me definitely goldfish and guppies they always disapear in my tank jk prolly ottos the fish i have lost the most i would say

My weakness is just being so rushed I make silly mistakes.

I allowed a blood parrot to kill a front.

I lost two CKs to a salvani...

And when I moved my Aro to a 125 from a growout tank...I forgot to plug the holes and he leapt to his death.

Then the LFS sold me a Ocerllaris that was nearly dead. I never got him to eat.

I can't keep clown loaches alive for the life of me...

Cichlid wise, probably C. mersi. Damn things are always sick.
