Whats your biggest Ornate?

JamesF, i had a Delhezi a while back got it for like 12 buck for a 7incher. lfs didnt know what it was haha and when i restocked my tank i traded her in(very dumb choice) and they realized what it was and sold her for $60. i just got back into bichirs and i dont see any signs of slowing

fwlion, huge ornate! and some very nice Varanids! ive got a 7ft+ female 100% het for albino red tail boa and a 9ft plus male red tail. possibly breeding them in the future.

Wow, 12 bucks for a 7" del. Good deal. Too bad you passed her along. They are one of my favourite polys.

Here are a couple of shots of decent sized Ornates.

First is a 6 year old 22" male ornate.

The second shot is of the largest Bichir I have ever laid eyes on, a giant ornate in the Disney animal kingdom Orlande. The pic was taken in 2006. They had several decent sized ones in the tank but this beast was easily 24"+ and thick like a log.

They are great fish, good luck with yours.

My Ornate is 17" @ 3.5 years. My Ornate is a captive bred. Captive bred usually wouldn't grow past 20" but it would depend on it's genes. Wild caught Ornates can hit 24" or bigger(If given sufficient tank space).

i know:/ her patterns werent the greatest but you could def tell she was a del. i wonder how big she is now, that was atleast 2-3 years ago.

I picked up an 8" ornate for $25 and a 5" senegal for $5. upgrading to a bigger tank this summer. I cant wait to call my 55 gal my little tank
