hey guys, next month ill be getting a 125 gallon tank looking at a lot of different options, pike cichlids, arowanas, stingrays, spotted gar, knifefish, red tail cats, theres so many fish i love and such limited space so you guys drop some suggestions experiences and person preferences.

Huh? 125g tank and considering these fish? Is there a long term option beyond the 125g?
 
Most of what you mentioned will need a lot bigger than a 125 for life.
The 125 will be a decent home for a single 12 inch fish, maybe a breeding pair. Anything else is a roll of the dice if it will work or not, in my opinion.

i was thinking what i would do is pick two or three fish that temperamentally can get along then raise them together in there to reduce aggression then after a few months upgrade there tank
 
Couple tanks to rattle around in your head

Starynight cichlids, Congo tetras, at syno cats

Oscar pair

Single Oscar with catfish and or pleco

Green Terror pair

Jewel cichlid harem with congos and synos

Sevrum pair with tetras, Pictus, a couple redhead Geos

Firemouth colony with Meeki and Pasionis, swordtails or sailfin Molly's

Instead of a firemouth colony he could do a convict colony and watch as the older fry take care of the younger fry. I’ve always wanted to do that in an 8’ x 4’ x 2’
