Whats Your opinion on Best submersible heaters

I like the Eheim Jager. I did have one quit on me after 6 months though. It's the only heater I've ever had quit.

I wouldn't recommend Hydor Theo heaters. I bought three and they were all off about 3 degrees. One day I noticed one of my tanks was at 90 degrees. I got the tank cooled off and set the heater on 70 and it'd run about 80-82 degrees. The others have since had similar problems. I actually wouldn't recommend any Hydor heaters. According to their recommendation you need a 300 watt heater for a 55 gallon which seems rediculous to me.

I have a 300 watt Jager controlled by a Ranco temperature controller that works really well. I'm actually in the process of changing all my heaters, so they're controlled by an external controller. The cheap internal thermostat is the weak point of those heaters.

I ordered 3 JBJ true temp titanium heaters that I'm going to set up when I get home later this week. I'm replacing all the Hydor Theo heaters with them. This is my first time using a JBJ true temp, so I can't personally say how good they are. I've never read a bad review on them. They are a little expensive though.

I also ordered an Aqueon pro heater I'm going to run through a controller I'm going to try out. I saw a few bad reviews, but mostly good ones. I suppose even the best products occasionally have a few bad ones that get through. It'll be a few months before I use the Aqueon heater, so I can't really give an opinion on quality.

I'd suggest either go with the JBJ or a jager and ranco controller. The JBJ starts at about 100 dollars for a 150 watt and goes up. They're biggest is a 1000 watt heater.

The Ranco temperature controller is about 75 dollars. The Jager heaters can all be bought for less than 40 dollars if I remember right, so you're looking at around 100 dollars or a little more with the Ranco controller and Jager heater.

The Eheim Jager 300 watt is rated for up to 265 gallons. The 1000 watt JBJ heater is rated for up to 300 gallons. I don't know if those ratings are accurate. You'd think 300 watts would be 300 watts no matter the brand. If you go off their ratings you should save a little money on electricity each month with the Jager.

Hopefully that was helpful. Just remember a heater is one place you don't want to try and cut costs on. Good luck finding a new heater.

Find an old ebo-jager or a visi-therm made in the 80's. Still have some that are working. Most of the new heaters are crap (parts made in China, guaranteed until lunch time). Lately, I have had the best success with Rena brand heaters.

any thing with a lifetime guarantee...they ALL fail eventually

I would recommend an eheim jager. I've had the second one quit on me now. I had one quit after 6 months and now one after 3 months. The light is on like they're trying to heat, but they just aren't heating.

I meant to say I wouldn't recommend a Eheim Jager.

I wonder why we can't edit our own posts anymore.
