Your question its to general to awnser with a yes or a no, most snakes dont need as well as nocturnal species and Ive raised turtles for close to 20 years completly healty only with dietary suplements (but this last one dont try yourself as there are many more to it).

Thats rigth LP, however Ive seen undergrowth species going MBD as well, so make shure you use a very good brand of dietary suplements alongside whole prey and I would advice that from time to time (like a few times a week) you use a flurescent 5.0 uv ligth, no power sun or nothing of the kind, just a weaker smooder amount of uv to make shure. You can even put it on a distance so it doesant disturb your caiman sensitive eyes.
