Have your falks changed much ?
Are they growing like weeds

They change, but hard to notice seeing them everyday. Not growing too fast......

Fishdog owns Jags. Nobody here acknowledges what things "technically" are. We stil refer to them just like they were. Falks are Falks, Jags are Jags, and Castexi are Castexi....... How many different species of "Motoro" are there? Nobody refers to thier top shelf Marbles as "Motoros", not sure why Falks should be used to generalize what we know as 3 different rays. ;)

I have 2/3 my list. Nice Pearl, Marbles, black mutts, and Falks. No Boes, or crazy BD.

I am not comfortable with this either Alan. I believe what you have there is what we have always known as the "true" Falkneri, my guess is yours won't attain anything like the sizes often quoted with Castexi.
Love the ones you have!
On another note I agree with Calgary on the Flower\ Tiger issue. I have said this before a few years ago, these two will one day be taken out of Potamotrygon and put in a new genus together, I see huge similarities, ie tail structure, position of eyes, shape of spiracle and last but not least their discs are the same shape.....like I have said so many times its all about attention to detail, for some these differences are obvious for others less so....whether your a scientist or hobbyist, scientists don't always get it right, if they did they wouldn't keep changing the names.I feel they would benefit from surfing this site from time to time and taking on board some of the findings and thoughts of experienced hobbyists, there are some very clued up people on MFK, many of which don't have any letters before their names.

Thank you Richard..... I'm entirely open to my Falks getting huge, maybe they'll prove me wrong, but with unrolled claspers and lots of biting/chasing at the size they're at now lead me to believe that they're gonna end up around the same average max size as the larger Marbles. What I'm told from the only reliable source for them is the largest they've ever seen in the wild down there is 70 cm females.

BUT maybe he's making up sizes like we do with the "mini" Marbles, to make it sound more appealing to potential customers...... :grinno:

I hope to get a video feed of them streaming soon so everyone can see the activity level of these things compared to other rays.

Motoro is not a species it's a complex . Theirs many species that fit into this motoro family
Pearl
Occelata
Marbles
Various types of "motoros" as us hobbiest know them by

Boesemani is endemic and possibly isolated to a certian system north .According to a very credible source boesemani is a seperate species. But to me it Definatley falls into the motoro complex.the people who classified boesemani did not get the pleasure to examine living specimens only dried ones in two collections one in Washington dc others are all in Netherlands . Little is known about the habitat .

Db I think falkneri is same deal as motoro .
Many different patterns. To us hobbiest yellow or golden falkneri are the holly grail or crown jewel of the falk species.

As for size I got mine in at about 6-7" last end of January and the things at least 13" now and doesnt stop moving and eating . It out eats big rays it's metabolism is alot faster than anything I've kept so far. I did know a fellow years ago who had a pair of "star stingrays" they were just nice castexti and they grew at similar pace. From what I see in mine I think he will reach a decent size. Richard Ross has a trio last I spoke with him he said the females had to be at least 36" . If you look in the aqualog book theirs a photo of his on the cover I believe . It's not like it's a surprise rays get huge espcaiilly the ones from Argentina . I haven't really ever seen any smaller strains of castexti ,otorongo, jags or star rays they all seemed to get really big. I really hope that these don't attain sizes big like those.
Mine also seemed to have alot different patterns than the rest so it's possible mine is from a different local ??

And db you probably seen buddies falks a few years back on this site..
Think his name was samurai ???
His seemed to be a totally different looking strain also. Not as nice as the ones you got But still really nice and deep orange

Somebody should pm him and get an update on the size .

If I knew how to upload pics from my iPhone I'd give an update. My laptop broke in the summer I've been content with my iPhone but still haven't figured how to freaking upload pics on mfk.

Oh how we've missed all your information.......

Wanna see some nice Jags that are reproducing at less then huge sizes? Go look at Fishdog's 16" female and 12" male. They've produced 3-4 times.

I remember Seichii's (Samarhi H) Falks.......After seeing his is when they became my favorite rays. Where do you think the courage to mix Aimara and Falkneri came from ;)

If your Falk went from 6 to 13" in the same time we've had ours here in the states then you are clearly just a better Fishkeeper, cause mine and the other guy here that ordered some with mine haven't grown more then a few inches. Congrats, another crowning achievement. I'm sure you'll be first to breed them too.

The whole hearing about Dr. Ross's rays that nobody has any pics of is really getting old...... The saying goes pics or it didn't happen. Although I'm sure it's happened, I'd still like to see the pics, and I'm sure others would too.
