what's your worst purchase

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When I first got started I had a 10 gallon with some guppies and a couple mollies. Damn if one of the mollies didn't try to kill all the guppies. No more mollies.
I have a dwarf puffer that got along well with the otto he shared his tank with for months. Then I was doing a routine water change and couldn't find the otto. He is just gone. I am sure the puffer just ate him one day. But, the puffer is cute. He now has his own tank.
The last bad purchase was letting my daughter talk me into Princess the fancy goldfish. UGH. I put her in the 60 with the community fish until I could get her own tank set up. All that for 1 goldfish....

My mom bought some feeder goldfish for my brother's red ear slider. Well, he took his time eating them, so we put them in the 55 that was cycling. I figured they'd be gone pretty quickly. Well, turned up that there were baby koi mixed in there. I ended up with four too big for the turtle to eat, and I didn't have the heart to get rid of them even though I was doing massive cleanings like evceryday. I eventually got Petco to take them. Now I have two blood parrots that hide from me all the time, even though they have some silver hatchets as dither fish. Still, not bad for $3 each, I guess.

my worst purchas was when i was like 5, i went to (walmart or meijer can't really remember) and saw a crab (about 2-3inches) so i bought it thinking "wow this is so cool" damn thing died the same day !

CAE's (Chinese Algae Eaters) have to be the worst purchases ever, they ate no algae and as they grew older they developed a taste for fish mucus - ended killing my favorite pair of Angels.

My first fish purchase was a ten gallon tank and when I asked the employees which fish would live in a ten gallon, they sold me 2 shubunkins and a bunch of other tropical fish...

my worst purchase....
would have to be my male con that was supposed to be a feeder.
he ended up growing too big for any fihs too eat and loves chasing fish around.
but soon my other fish are gonna outgrow and eat him. :D

My worst purchase was 4 inch and a half convicts. I was told they would go well in a community tank..... Due to their size I put them in the small (2 foot tank) with around 20 neons, half a dozen mollies and a pair of small albino bristlenose cats. All but the neons were larger than the convicts. After a day I noticed the neons numbers were reduced and a floating half a cat. after a week there were only the 4 convicts in the tank. Things were fine for a couple of months then 2 of the convicts paired off and started chasing the other 2. The victims were put into a small (1 foot) tank to recover but they decided they didn't get along either so were separated. I now have 4 convicts in 3 separate tanks of various sizes and am too scared to put anything else in with them - and am cautious about putting them into the large tank with the silver shark, the acara's and the salmontail cats even though they are minimum 3 times the size of the convicts....

Last time I listen to anyone who says 'great in a community tank!' without doing homework first!
