Cool looking fish put it in the tank didnt see it again after several months assumed it was eaten by my O. Cleaning tank decor one day running hot water through a hollow piece of driftwood and out pops the raphael a lot bigger than it used to be and cooked by the hot water I was using to clean
Mine would be Neolamprologus brichardi, brought home a pair with minimal research. Watched this pair almost immediately begin to kill everything in the tank.
First time I ever set up a tank, it was a "huge" (to me anyway at the time) 20gal. And I went home on day 1 - with no cycling or anything - with 2 pacus, 2 silver dollars, an iridescent shark and a bala. Oh Walmart, how I loathe thee.
Anyway the 20gallon became a 55 within a year.
The good news is all but the bala somehow survived and I had one of the silver dollars for over 8 years! Live and learn - but I'm still amazed they can sell Pacus for 4.99 and say they only get to 8". Guess they're popular because they look like Piranha?
It also got me into keeping monster fish, though I admit these days my aquarium is much more modest.
my worst purchase was a flower horn. with out research i brought one because i though it was cute. it killed my small arowan which i spend like 60 bucks on and 3 parrots. worst purchase ever
Oscars, I knew they would get big but did not realize how big and aggressive. I lost one to playing in the current of the HOB filter and one or two to aggression, mind you I was a young inexperienced fish keeper at the time. Also Green Spotted Puffer's I was never able to keep one alive for over a year. Tried to slowly acclimate them to full marine but I must have been doing something wrong.
A payara (scomb, not the nicer armatus). I was just starting out in the hobby and I loved the cool looking teeth, so I payed $80 for him because he looked mean enough to co-exist with my red devil.
