When 300 gallons just isn't enough......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That aggression may reappear at any time since they are big fish in a new tank. That is why I always buy very small 1 inch range.

Beautiful tank and fish, too bad the jag didn't work out. At least your vieja's working out and no fish were killed in that horrific event

Thanks! It's kind of suprising how quickly everyone seems to be bouncing back. Obviously they are not shy lol or they are just celebrating the end of the siege.. If I had been gone all day, which is not unusual, I think I would have lost the festae for sure.

I guess the jag can live solo in the 90 huh? hadn't really planned on that happening, but she seem ok in there.

ship me that female jag, i got a brute male around the same size 10-11" he looks like a underwater torpedo

If I had a way to do it, she'd be all yours. She's not going anywhere anytime soon though, so maybe I'll figure it out.......

love to see pics of the torpedo:)

Amazing colours in all your fish, especially the festae! glad you got to her in time! what size is she at? what lighting are you using? i have a 180g and i find lighting really difficult.

Thanks for sharing, I too feel this is important for newcomers. I'm pretty new to the hobby, but I have had a few fish snap on me trying to mix different fish. Luckily I was able to catch things before there were too many casualties. I sadly lost 2 fish out of it all, but now most of my fish seem to be fine for now. Only time will tell how long my current stock could coexist with no major issues. I almost feel like this should be a sticky for newcomers.

Thanks! I think most of the color comes from food actually. I 've been feeding Xtreme big fella and monster for the past 3-4 months and they all eat it like pigs and growth and color has been pretty exceptional. A lot like NLS, but my lfs carries it so i figured I'd give it a shot. Pretty good stuff

"Scarlet" the festae is right around 5-6" now although I think I tend to underestimate most of my fishes sizes, so closer to 6".

Lighting is something I played around with a lot , but I really haven't spent much money on. The center of the tank has a 48" Hagen dual t5ho with powerglo and marine glo tubes. I've tried just about every color bulb available at one point or another and found that I always have gravitated towards the blue/high end of the spectrum, 10K and up.....probably from years keeping salt setups. No real plants so I can get away with the actinic i the mix. Behind that strip are 2 24" aqueon strips with colormax bulbs, which are a lot more red but with much less overall output than the t5's. The side strips are also aqueons with normal daylight bulbs, just for fill. I ran it without lighting the sides and it just looked too dark overall.
