Ok, my RTG aroana tank, 1200 litres

i do water change

monday 40 to 50%
wednesday 30 to 35%
friday 35 to 40%

usualy my nitrate at the highest on sunday night will be around 20 to 30
then i change water drops very low, maybe 5 or 10

now, i skipped the water change wednesday.... level of nitrate today was 20 to 25. tomorrow i hange
do you think its worth changing 3 times per week?
or 2 should be ok?
what is the highest nitrate acceptable?
i dont wana stunt their growth you see

i know there willalwayss be nitrate, but opinions on the levels acceptable for a day or so with out stunting

You could skip a waterchange, but then you should reduse the amount you feed them between the one waterchange you skip. To avoid a spike.

what si a high nitrate?
20ppm?
50?

when should one change water?
i mean when does it start being harmful to fish?

i am trying to find a way to reduce mypower bill by reducing water changes but do nt want stunted fish.

would it be safe to change water at 40 to 50 ppm?
or is that too high alreayd?

this is one of those questions that your going to get MANY different answers. i can say that i have ran tanks at up around 100ppm with great growth still. 40-50 is no problem IMO.

certain species are more sensitive to nitrates, I think once a week is more than enough.

20 is a good level for most any fish. 50 is getting high. I'd say anything above 80 is getting dangerous for some fish.

Twice a week at 40% should be plenty for almost any fish.

I had allways read that 200ppm nitrate was toxic. And to try and keep them below 50. After 15 years of chasing nitrates, I do a 50% water change once a week and never check them on cycled tanks. I keep rare and sensetive preds and never have any problems with this.

How does changing water affect the power bill?

It cost about one penny per gallon of water here, so unless I have to change a 1000 gallons a week, I don't worry about it.

heating
water comes out at 15 degrees here in my country lol
its pure though
i dont use water ager or removers and conditioners.

but 15 degrees!!!
so gotta heat that to 28

i have many tanks
in oine water change i would change between 800 to 1000 total litres!!!!
so i did that 3 times a week!!!
water bill is getting rough

but, i did a tiral last two weeks
at the highest point wth HEAVY feedin, as i like that:D

my nitrate on the 1200 litre tank is about 40 on the day if i skip the wednesday. or een slightly less
never more than 50!
ive never seen more than 50!
