When did all leos become BD?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think people should just sell the rays for the way they look, and label them exactly what they are. If it looks great, sell it for higher, if it looks okay, sell for lower. Doesn't really matter whether it's parents were absolute high end stunners if the pup looks pretty average. Sell the pup based on its quality not it's lineage.
the issue is that I have seen many uninteresting pups develop into stunners and vice versa... the problem with the 5 traits is that pups do not show belly spotting and or spirable/clasper spotting until later in life .. so it should depend on what the parents display... now the hybrids out of asia are a whole other issue....

Marbels are totally different collected in different places and pup may not show marbling but will later- totally different story

That doesn't always seem to be the case however. Just like leos being called BD, nearly every motoro for sale these days is labeled as a marble, pups and adults alike. I've also seen pups born with tons of marbling from stunning parents to grow into boring adults, I've also seen it go the other way too. So just because a pup comes from two marble parents I would have a hard time calling the pups marbles until they get a bit older.

Also there do seem to be at least a couple types of marbles. I believe I know the kind you are speaking of, they tend to have the "bars" between spots? Much more structured patterns? There are also marbles that have swirls and blotches between spots. These don't have nearly the same look and tend to sell for a bit less, though I had always heard of them referred to as marbles as well. Maybe these are no longer supposed to be considered marbles? Like I said, been out of the game a while, just trying to understand at this point.

If 2 quality marble breed u get quality marbles , u carnt get a plain motoro from a marble , and u carnt get a marble from a plain motoro

There is plenty of different veriants of marble

Commonly found
Columbian marble

Rarer
Mini marble from Columbia

And very rare

Venizulan marbles

You are correct about the claspers but not on the belly spotting. From my experience, around 2 months you'll get an idea if it will have good belly spotting or not, and my 3 month Olds are 100% developing quite nice spotting. Not what it will be for sure, but beauty spotting non the less. At 2 months if you put the bellies of a mid grade and a high grade Leo side by side you will easily be able to tell which is going to have the nice spotting and which not. I agree that the hybrid pups can start looking great and turn out otherwise, I don't personally believe that happens much to non hybrid bd/Leo's, I feel you can accurately estimate what they will look like a lot. But parents do help for sure.

I prefer now to call all pure p13's leopoldi, makes things a lot easier since they are. Then let quality/demand adjust price for sellers.

A few years back the BD tag seemed to become more a confirmation of high quality, rather than Sao Felix bloodline origin or however the classification was initially intended.

In the below picture, it is my understanding that my ray has a Leo mom and BD dad, however, as you can see, carries the BD gene dominately.........so would u call my ray a BD / Leo by bloodline or a BD by born appearance traits? Interested in forum opinions.

Here is another one for consideration......

The below girl has BD and Henlei parents, however, she looks more like a Leo Hen (as the Henlei gene is more dominate), so....... would u consider her a BD Hen or Leo Hen? Or just a Hen?

Are leos and BD now considered separate species? If they are then I'd call it a BDXHen, however if Leo and BD are still the same, just a nicer version I'd call it a LeoXHen, probably regardless of how it looked. That said, I've been wrong previously in this thread. I also think that the name thing is getting out of control and preferred it when it was much simpler.

"Mutts" is a better/more accurate term for all these "BDs"

Only thing that should be called a BD is a real BD with real BD parents that can actually be proven. IF parents are unknown call it what it likely is..... A MUTT.
