When Do You Consider Someone or Yourself to be "Experienced?"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Never. My theory on this is the same as my theory on nature. Approach each experience with nature... or fishkeeping... as a student, willing to learn more, not to conquer or teach, and you will learn way more. But never hint that you know enough. Even with fish, mankind will never know every little thing there is about a species, no matter how much research is done.

Well said.

Totally agreed.

Experience doesn't an expert make....
We have all experienced the rain, but very few can scientifically explain weather.
I agree with before...approach everything with cautious curiosity and learn everyday. If my experience can relate somehow to a fellow fish keeper, then that is a chance to learn patience.
Don't be critical...we have all been there.

^Yes...I'm not talking about saying that you're an Expert. Just when would you say that you've had experience with a fish? Just because someone has had a certain fish for a few weeks wouldn't really count as experience compared to someone who's had it for 5 years.

Ben,
"Keep it simple and don't over think things." LOL. J/K.

Experience is like age, it's all relative. you keep gathering it until you die. when are you "old"?
I'm inexperienced. Any hobby with living things is pretty endless. We progress by starting over, again and again, in new ventures and even with individual fish and setups.
I just want to enjoy doing the best that I can, with what I can have.

"It's what you learn after you know it all that counts!" hahaha.

I agree it's all relative since the behaviours of most fish are different. This is especially true for bigger fish where their personalities and aggression can vary with age and the individual fish itself so they can always surprise you. Do experience is knowing you really don't know how an individual fish will react but you can always make better and better guesses at how you think it will
