When do you know when two fish wont get along?

Its a 55 gallon, and the (2) catfish are Jaguar cats, theyre around 4 inches and thick. I only have gravel and a few rock caves. I had some plants but the GT was trying to bite them. I had only a few because the GT acted skittish (still is), but them I saw him biting and yanking on plants so I took them out.

Well...he is a Cichlid, they like to do that, LOL. Maybe put the plants back in. It might distract him from the Cats.
